There is no replacement, the fields contain the %variables (with closing % in names). The same happens with the old %F1, ... variables (without closing % in names).
In a new installation the ini file contains the following lines without closing % in the variable names, as I found:
togetfmt=%A-%L
commentfmt=%A-%L
creditsfmt=%A-%L
picturefmt=folder;%A-%L;%F1;%D
foldermasks=%Y - %L;%A-(%Y)-%L
lyr_nameformat=%F
pic_nameformat=%F
listfoldercustom=%U1/%F
listextformat=(%Y) %A - %T
Is this correct ?
New Edit template with %F1%, .... variables doesn't work

Re: New Edit template with %F1%, .... variables doesn't work
New beta refresh is up.
Corrected %F, %D, %U variable usage.
Added the F5 key as shortcut to the apply button.
Also updated the default ini file, help file and labels/text in the options dialogue.

Work fine now !
I read the help, and found some out of date, inaccurate text (maybe there are others yet)
In Tree view & Filter:
Bitrate filters and Tag existence are now together with normal filters, using special fieldnames
In Options / Formatting:
Incremental number
Number variable %# options ....
Tokens ( %F1..%F9,%D1..%D5 )
%D,%U variables exceptions
