No access to Mapped drives?

Post by NY152 »

Hello,

Since the program interface has changed, I no longer have access to my music that is on a network drive with The Godfather. Why? Is it possible to fix this?

Thank you for your help

Nothing changed regarding that.
Make sure your network share or mapped drive are accessible and if using a non Windows share that the file system is correctly supported by your OS.

Will need detailed information about those shares and mapped drives so I can try and reproduce on a Windows8 install ( I see you are using that OS)

It is a Windows 8 Pro (supplied factory on my VAIO Duo 11, therefore 100% legal)

Mapped drives are two networks provided by the two volumes of my NAS Synology DS412+

My DS412+ is always accessible and all over my home network without worries. The GodFather is the ONLY program that does not see my network drives.

If you need more details, let me know

I found out that Windows 8 hides mapped drives for programs that 'Run as Administrator' it differentiates the current user ( the one that mapped the drives) and the elevated user behaving differently than other Windows versions.

Will try to see if a workaround can be applied for this behavior.

You need to add a registry value to make Windows8 behave like previous versions.

1.Remove all mapped drives.
2.Add this registry value:

Code: Select all

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
     “EnableLinkedConnections”=dword:00000001
You can get the .reg file here http://jtclipper.eu/thegodfather/other/ ... Drives.zip
3.Restart.
4.Add your mapped drives again.

Make sure UAC is not active because it might mess things up.
You might also need to restart after step 1

It works! No need to remove network drives, just apply the registry key and restart and c ca works :)

Maybe he should add this option in advanced / expert section to fix the problem because there are more people who put their music on a NAS.

Anyway thank you for the fix :)

EDIT: Someone FLAC files reported as invalid by GodFather while are normally readable and their tag can be modified by other gesttionnaoire? Personally I have and I am ready to provide them to help developers

Flac files reported as invalid are most of the time files with ID3v2 tags, you can use Tools/Delete/ID3v2 and see if this fixes the issue.

Apparently my FLAC were correct after removing all versions of tags (not just v2)

It would be possible to add a context menu option to delete a version of a tag or all? That would avoid having to use another utility.

Hi,

I have the same problem, using Windows 10 (Upgrade from Win 8.1).

Can I use the same reg key to get it working again?

Best regards
Jürgen

It might be that you have selected c:\ as the root for the folder tree, try right clicking and select 'revert to default root'
